Hebrews 4:9-10
Brothers and sisters in Christ,
Just a short passage and brief message this evening:
9 So then, there remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God, 10 for whoever has entered God’s rest has also rested from his works as God did from his. (Hebrews 4:9-10)
God gave us the gift of resting from our work one day a week. Our God is a very practical, loving creator. He made us, he knows what we need, and he says to be sure to rest one day a week. I’m thankful for his gift.
On our rest day, we’re invited by God not only to “rest from our works” but also to contemplate the wonderful truth that this rest is a picture of our salvation by grace. We are saved by God in Christ not because of any works that we may have done but by God’s loving grace and his free gift to us of salvation in Christ.
“There remains a Sabbath rest for the people of God.” All who, by God’s grace, have “entered God’s rest” in Christ can look forward with full confidence to a glorious and eternal rest, of which the refreshment of our weekly rest is only a very small foretaste.
May you be blessed by meditating on these truths as you rest on the Lord’s Day tomorrow (or, if you have to work tomorrow, on another day).
Your brother in Christ,
Max
